Members of Eco Network Heirok and MYC club cleaned the river banks of Heirok Wangjing River in the Laikol area of Heirok part 1 on Sunday from 7 am till 9 am as a part of the cleanliness campaign initiated by Eco Network Heirok under the theme “Save River Clean Water”.
Eco-Network Heirok secretary Shinthangamba Laishram appealed to the people not to contaminate the river by dumping waste and plastic bottles as every living being on earth cannot survive without water.
Stating that drinking water is being filtered from the rivers and given to the public, he appealed to the people not to pollute the river for their own benefit.
Shinthangamba also mentioned that people have been mining sand from the river, cutting off trees from the banks and poppy plantations by deforestation eventually leading to erosion of river banks.
He urged the PHED, Water Resources, Environment Department and Manipur Pollution Control Board to extend their support in cleaning the river to save the river.
