ECI lifts model code of conduct

The ECI has lifted the Model Code of Conduct from Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur, where state assembly elections were held recently.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has lifted the model code of conduct that came into force on January 8, 2022 with the announcement of the schedule for assembly elections in the state, with immediate effect.

“The ECI has lifted the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) with immediate effect, which came into force on January 8, 2022 with the announcement of schedule for Assembly Elections,” the ECI stated.

The ECI stated that since the results of the general elections to the state Legislative Assembly of Manipur have been declared, the MCC has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect.

The ECI has lifted the Model Code of Conduct from Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, apart from Manipur.
