ECI launches nationwide SSR 2023

Annual Special Summary Revision is conducted in every state to ensure enrolment of newly eligible citizens.

Election Commission of India (ECI) led by chief election commissioner Sh Rajiv Kumar and election commissioner Sh Anup Chandra Pandey on Wednesday launched a nationwide Special Summary Revision (SSR), 2023.

A release issued by chief electoral officer, Manipur Rajesh Aggarwal stated that the ECI led by chief election commissioner Sh Rajiv Kumar and election commissioner Sh Anup Chandra Pandey will launch nationwide Special Summary Revision (SSR), 2023 and participate in specific events at Pune, Maharashtra to highlight the criticality of SSR exercise.

The commission flagged off a cycle rally at 7 am from Balewadi stadium Pune and inaugurated an exhibition on voter awareness messages at Savitri Bai Phule University at 11 am, it stated. Then the commission would interact with the Voter Awareness Forum at Hingewadi at 3 pm followed by a press conference at 5 pm, it mentioned.

Article 324 of the Constitution entrusts the ECI with superintendence, direction, and control of the preparation of electoral rolls as the primary bedrock of conducting elections to Parliament and to the legislature of every State, it further stated. 

“Annual Special Summary Revision is conducted in every state to ensure enrolment of newly eligible citizens. This year the SSR will formally start with publication of the draft electoral roll on November 9 of 2022 with reference to January 1 of 2023 as the qualifying date,” it read.

It stated that the SSR 2023 in respect of Manipur will be launched on November 9 of 2022 with reference to January 1 of 2023 as the qualifying date. “The general public/electors and representatives of political parties may inspect and verify the Draft Photo Electoral Rolls at the offices of the Electoral Registration Officers or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and with all the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) at their respective polling stations and they may also visit Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur's website https://ceomanipur.nic.in,” it informed.

Further, one printed copy of the Draft Electoral Rolls of each Assembly Constituency and another copy in DVD-ROM will be made available free of cost and handed over to the representative of recognised National and State Political Parties, it continued.

It further stated that the eligible applicants who will be attaining 18 years and above on January 1 of 2023 as qualifying date and subsequent qualifying dates of the year which are April 1 of 2023, July 1 of 2023, and October 1 of 2023 can now submit their claims in advance in Form-6, beginning from the date of draft publication of electoral roll which is November 9 of 2022. 

The applications received related to January 1 as qualifying date will be processed and electoral roll will be updated with final publication in January 2023, it mentioned. “While the forms and claims with reference to the other three subsequent qualifying dates of the year, received in advance during the SSR period and continuous update thereafter shall be processed under continuous update during the relevant quarter preferably in the first month of the quarter,” it added.
