ECI announces election schedule for Assembly elections 2022; Manipur to go to polls on February 27, March 3

Assembly elections for the five poll-bound states will be conducted in seven phases starting from January 14 till March 7 and counting of votes will be conducted on March 10.

The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the polls schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in five states - Manipur, Goa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra announced that elections for the five poll-bound states will be conducted in seven phases starting from February 10 till March 7 and counting of votes will be conducted on March 10.

In Manipur, the Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be conducted on February 27 and the second phase will be held on March 3.

The notification for the first phase of elections will be issued on February 1, while for the second phase, notification will be issued on February 4.

The last date of nominations for will be February 8 and February 11 while the scrutiny of nominations will be done on February 9 and February 14 for the first phase and second phase respectively. The last date withdrawal of Candidature for the first phase will be February 11 and February 16 for the second phase.

The Assembly constituencies going for polls in the first phase include 1-Khundrakpam, 2-Heingang, 3-Khurai, 4-Khetrigao, 5-Thongju, 6-Keirao, 7-Andro, 8-LamIai, 9-Thangmeiband, 10-Uripok, 11-SagoIband, 12-Keisamthong, 13-Singjamei, 14-YaiskuI, 15 Wangkhei, 16-Sekmai (SC), 17-Lamsang, 18-Konthoujam, 19-Patsoi, 20-Langthabal, 21- Naoria Pakhanglakpa, 22-Wangoi, 23-Mayang Imphal, 24-Nambol, 25-Oinam, 26-Bishenpur, 27-Noirang, 28-Thanga, 29-Kumbi, 46-Saikul (ST), 50-Kan 9pokpi, 51-Saitu (ST), 55- Tipaimukh(ST), 56-Thanlon(ST), 57-Henglep(ST), 58 Churachandpur (ST), 59-Saikot(ST), and 60-Singhat(ST).

The Assembly constituencies going for polls in the second phase are 30-Lilong, 31-Thoubal, 32-Wangkhem, 33-Heirok, 34-Wangjing Tentha, 35-Khangabok, 36- Wabgai, 37-Kakching, 38-HiyangIam, 39-Sugnoo, 40-Jiribam, 41-ChandeI (ST), 42- Tengnoupal (ST), 43-Phungyar (ST), 44-Ukhrul (ST), 45-Chingai (ST), , 47-Karong (ST), 48- Mao (ST), 49-Tadubi (ST},52-Tamei (ST), 53-TamengIong (ST) and 54-Nungba (ST).

Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be held in seven phases. The first phase will be conducted on February 10 while the last phase will be conducted on March 7. The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly has 403 seats.

Goa, Punjab and Uttarakhand will go to polls on February 14.  While Goa Legislative Assembly has a total of 40 seats, there are 117 seats in the Punjab Legislative Assembly. Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly has 70 seats. 

The CEC said that the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect immediately from the announcement of the election schedules.

The ECI has decided that no road shows, padayatras, cycle or bike rallies and processions will be allowed till January 15, CEC Sushil Chandra said, adding that there shall be no victory processions after the declaration of results.
