One person was arrested and 1.9 kg brown sugar worth Rs 1.9 crore was confiscated by the officials of the Anti-Smuggling unit of the Customs Division, Imphal from the possession of an individual at Mantripukhri in Imphal East on Tuesday.
The person arrested was identified as Md Abdul Kalam, 40, son of late Md Satar from Santhel Mamang Leikai, Santhel, Thoubal district.
According to officials of Customs, the seized contraband drug is estimated to be worth Rs 1,93,90,000 and further investigation to nab the other offender(s) of the case is under way.
Meanwhile, Kakching Police seized 871 grams of suspected Heroin No 4 powder around 5.30 pm on Wednesday. Following a tipoff, frisking and checking were conducted by teams of CDO-Kakching at Pallel CDO checking point, police stated.
The team was headed by subedar Ksh Prakash and assisted by HC L Rohit and havildar N Chaoba under the command of OC, CDO Unit, Kakching inspector Md Abash Khan, under the supervision of additional SP (Ops) Kakching Binoy Chongtham and under the overall supervision of superintendent of Police, Kakching Shrey Vats, it stated.
While conducting frisking and checking, the team stopped one Eco-sport (black in colour, bearing registration no.AS01BJ-2244) which was coming from Tengnoupal side, it further stated. On checking the vehicle, 69 soap cases containing suspected Heroin no. 4 was found concealed in a well-designed rear running board of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested from the vehicle and identified as one Jamkholen Kipgen, 35, son of Paojalam Kipgen of S Toljang Village, Churachandpur, Manipur. He disclosed that the drugs were meant to be delivered at Churachandpur.
Upon measuring, the suspected drugs were found to weigh 871 grams in total.
The arrested individual along with the seized items were handed over to Kakching Police station for further action.
