Drugs worth over Rs 15 crore seized, no leniency towards illicit drug traffickers: Manipur CM Biren

War on Drugs: Manipur CM Biren on Sunday took to Twitter and in a series of tweets informed about latest seizures of narcotic drugs and arrest of three persons in the state.

Manipur Chief Minister on Sunday said that there will be no leniency towards illicit drug traffickers and since day one of the new government formation narcotics drugs worth over Rs 15 crore have been seized by the Manipur Police, the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) and the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Manipur.

"War on Drugs 2.0: No leniency towards illicit drug traffickers, will go after all of them! Since the day of forming the new Government, we have been able to seized narcotics drugs worth over Rs 15 Cr. Three major seizures by Manipur Police, NAB and ANTF in Manipur," Biren said in a Twitter post on Sunday.

The chief minister also said in another Twitter post that one person from Sora Mamang Mayai Leikai was arrested with 25 soap cases containing brown sugar.

"A combined team of Jiribam Police & Narcotics Cell (Jiribam) arrested one person who identified himself as Md Azamir from Sora Mamang Mayai Leikai along with 25 soap cases of Brown Sugar weighing around 316.62 gm. A Toyota Innova car was also seized from him," Biren tweeted.

In two other separate incidents, two persons were arrested with heroin powder, the chief minister said. 

"A team of Imphal East police arrested one person called Vareithing Kasom along with 4 soap cases of Heroin powder, weighing about 103g. Another team had arrested one person called Md Altaf along with 3 soap cases & 94 vials of Heroin powder weighing 63gms," Biren said in another tweet on Sunday.

The ANTF, which was set up on March was reconstituted by an order of the state Home department on March 22, and it is now headed by inspector general of Police, Zone II, Nishit Kumar Ujjwal, Manipur Director General of Police P Doungel said on March 24.

During the first meeting of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) that was conducted at the cabinet hall of Chief Minister’s Secretariat, CM Biren had given directives to take up all necessary measures to end the menace of drugs and to make Manipur a drug free state, the DGP told mediapersons.
