Drug trafficker arrested in Imphal West

An NAB police team arrested a drug trafficker at Makhan village crossing between Sekmai and Kanglatombi in Imphal West.

One drug trafficker was arrested during random frisking and checking as a part of the drive against drug trafficking in view of the ensuing Assembly elections 2022, in Imphal West, sources said.

The arrest was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police NAB at 5 pm at Makhan village crossing between Sekmai and Kanglatombi, police said. They said the arrested drug trafficker was identified as one 41-year-old Shingsei Letminthang Haokip, son of Tongjapao Haokip of Tuisomjang village, Sugnu PS, Churachandpur district, Manipur.

The recovery and seizure of 55 soap caps containing suspected No 4  Heroin powder weighing about 600 gm, and 10,000 WY tablets weighing about 1kg led to the arrest.

The drugs were found concealed in the fuel tank of one Hyundai Creta car bearing registrations No MN-03A- 0470, the police said, adding that the car and a mobile phone handset were also seized from the man’s possession.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested person brought the seized contraband items from one person from Myanmar bordering Manipur, to be delivered at Kanglatombi along National Highway-2 to one lady drug trafficker and then further to other states of the country, showing National and International ramifications.

A regular case was registered at NAB-Police Station in this regard for investigation, the police said.
