A one-day discourse on gender issues in Manipur under 16 days activism 2022, was held on Saturday at Women Action for Development (WAD) office located at Palace Compound, Imphal East.
Speaking during the event Economics professor, Chinglen Maisnam stressed the need to expand research works stating that many issues confronting the state, particularly gender-based, are owing to lack of research works.
Professor Chinglen Maisnam said the state government had allocated a separate gender budget but it needs thorough examinations. “In a state like Manipur, research work is the key to fill in the gap of the budget as well as for solving issues,” he said.
Research scholar of Economics department, Manipur University, L Menaobi also spoke on the issue. Another research scholar, Bijeta said that 56 percent of women have been facing menstrual issues and maternal death has increased in the state.
During the programme, Research scholars Taibang Nganbi spoke on Covid-19 and Ima Keithel; Welkim on Covid-19 crime against women; Abrar on gender digital divide; Peisinlu on women and economic development; Puja on women and handloom; Robert in women and tourism.
WAD representatives also attended the discourse programme.
