The functionaries of the Destitute Children Home at Tera Keithel on Sunday informed the chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission that they are facing difficulties in managing the home due to delay in fund release.
The functionaries informed the same during an interaction with the MHRC chairperson and his team on Sunday.
MHRC Chairperson Justice UB Saha inspected the Destitute Children Home, Tera Keithel in Imphal West, where 37 children are currently lodged.
He was accompanied by MHRC member KK Singh, IGP Mamata Wahengbam and Sub-Inspector Loitongbam Peter Sony.
Briefing the MHRC team, the Children Home functionary said that the Home is running with the grants from Ministry of Women and Children Development, Government of India. He said the Home receives 90 per cent grant from the Ministry through Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur, but they are facing difficulty in managing home due to delay in fund release.
The MHRC team observed that the children are being provided various activities including vocational training, games and sports and recreational facilities.
On enquiry, the MHRC team was informed that the Home only keeps children between the age of 6 to 18 and many children who used to stay there have become responsible citizens of the State. At present some of them are holding important posts of the government including SIB officers, the team was informed.
The MHRC team patiently listened to the grievances of the children and assured that the MHRC would do its level best to promote and protect human rights of the children.
