As people in Manipur grappled to cope with the crisis situation, the Manipur government has extended day curfew relaxation in both Imphal East and Imphal West districts, citing "considerable improvement" in law and order situation in the region.
Also stating the need to ease the restriction of movement to facilitate the public to cinduct daily activities and to buy essential items, including food and medicines, the respective district magistrates issued an order for curfew relaxation from 5 am to 6 pm in all areas of Imphal East and Imphal West districts on Friday (September 1).
However, "this relaxation shall not include any gathering /sit-in protest/rally etc without obtaining approval through competent authority," the order stated.
Curfew exemption
As per notification, movement of persons belonging to essential services such as health, electricity, PHED, petrol pumps, schools/colleges, municipality, power (MSPDCL/MSPCL), press and electronic media, functioning of courts and to and fro movement of flight passengers to the airport will be exempted from the imposition of curfew after the expiry of the said period of relaxation.
