A dak runner of the SP of Churachandpur was assaulted while official documents, including the Indian National flag he was transporting, were allegedly burned by miscreants near Imphal Airport around 3.15 am on Monday.
Reliable sources said that the Dak runner, Abdul Gaffar, 52, son of Mohammad Alimuddin of Kwakta Septa, Ward No 1 was heading from Imphal to Churachandpur when miscreants rounded him up and he was beaten while his baggage was burned.
Abdul Gaffar said that he was tasked to carry official documents of different departments from Churachandpur, including the SP office, in the past.
He said he was ambushed near Airport gate, after which he was taken to an undisclosed location and beaten. The miscreants told him that they have been looking for him for a long time.
Even after he identified himself as Dak Runner for the SP of Churachandpur, his consignment which includes his ID card, Pan and AADHAAR card, Bag, ATM card etc. along with the Indian National Flag he carried to be used for the upcoming Indian Independent day Celebration at Churachandpur and Pherzawl District were allegedly burned by the miscreants.
Abdul Gaffer said that he had no enmities with anyone and was doing his duty until the assault on Tuesday.
He reportedly suffered fractured legs and bruises and is now being treated at home right now.
It may be mentioned that burning of the National flag is a punishable offense under the Flag code of India sub close, prevention of insult to national Honor Act 1971(section 2).
