In what could be termed as an impact of technological age with many falling victims to cyber scam or frauds, as many as 61 individuals have been being cheated or scammed of approximately Rs 1 crore according to Churachandpur Cyber crime police.
A group of pressmen from the district met the official of the Churachandpur Cyber Crime police on Tuesday where it was revealed that this year alone, through the NRCP Portal, the number of registered cases reached 61 where individuals lost as high as Rs 47 lakh and a minimum of Rs 20,000. The main causes were such as trending practices of Bitcoins, Core Mining, etc., with some cases from Facebook and X where advertisements were posted without proper websites and victims lost money through it.
In fact, many were also victims on WhatsApp with offers such as Anant Ambani weddings gift, SBI anniversary Gift, etc.
The Churachandpur Cyber Crime police official also said that purchasing of goods and financial investments that were not in Google but through APK download are very hard to recover. Victims of Cyber fraud should immediately contact them and also through the website www.cybercrime.gov.in which is a citizen portal where victims must complain immediately by uploading details like their Aadhar card, Pan card, Voter’s ID, Passport numbers.
In case of fraud through existing or nationalised banks, the name of the bank in which money was fraudulently withdrawn, UPI transaction ID, date and the amount of money that was transacted etc had to be reported promptly, said the Cyber police.
The Cyber Crime police also said that in case of financial fraud the victim should report within five hours to the cyber crime police or to the national porters after which the Cyber crime police can freeze the transfer. However, it’s better to complain through the NRCP Portal instead of going to the police station as the victims will be updated on their complaint through SMS in their Phone, the official said.
The cyber crime police official also informed that calls who identified, through automated calls, that they are from TRAI employees are false. They even threaten victims with SIM blocks and this should be complained through www.sancharsaathi.gov.in which can be utilised by those who lost their mobile phone and want to block it.
All those financial frauds are registered through NRCP Portal and investigated where some cases are solved promptly but those frauds through the internet take time and people should be aware of the sites they visit, especially in case of financial matters, the official from CCPS said.
