Customs seize contraband drugs worth over Rs 5.4 crore; recovers 12 gold biscuits

As many as 54,400 WY tablets worth around Rs 5,44,50,000 in the international market, were seized from Kwakta Bazar in Bishnupur district, Manipur.

In another drug bust, the Anti-Smuggling Unit, Customs Division, Imphal on Sunday seized as many as 54,400 WY tablets worth around Rs 5,44,50,000 in the international market, from Kwakta Bazar in Bishnupur district.

The drugs were recovered from the possession of one Hemminlal Touthang, 33, of Aigejang Village, Senapati, as per a release by the Customs Imphal Division.

Stating that a Honda Activa 6G bearing regn no. MN06 SF 2545 used for transportation of the contraband drugs was also seized, it said that the accused has also been arrested under relevant section of the NDPS Act, 1985.

The release also mentioned that earlier on February 24, the Customs Preventive Force, Pallel, under Customs Division, Imphal had seized as many as 12 gold biscuits of foreign origin weighing 1.992 kilograms valued at around Rs 1.12 crore.

The gold was recovered from a Maruti Van which was intercepted by the team of Customs and the driver has been arrested, it said adding further investigation to nab the other offender(s) of the cases is ongoing.
