Chingjaroi Khamor Angkhui cultural festival began on Saturday with the theme ‘Reclaiming our religious life’, with young and old alike in full traditional attire immersed in merry making and bonhomie.
Khamor Angkhui is an indigenous bread festival celebrated annually by the villagers.
Home to one of the biggest villages of the Tangkhul tribe of Manipur, the five-day long event was attended by Asia Indigenous Peoples’ Pact (AIPP) secretary general Gam Shimray, well wishers and neighbouring villagers.
Shimray attended as one of the key speakers of the occasion. Cultural display, indigenous bread and local cuisine competitions were the highlights of the launch.
Speaking at the event, former ADC member Tuizar Lawrence who attended as chief guest exhorted the villagers to keep intact the unity in them. “May the joyous celebration usher unity, peace and prosperity,” he said.
He also exhorted the locals to make love as the centrepiece of their lives. “True love is an elixir of life and built on a solid foundation. Unity will only come when there is forgiveness,” he said. The event will end on April 6.
