CSOs visit landslide-affected villagers of Makhuam in Tamenglong district

Rongmei civil society organisations appealed to all communities in the state and the concerned authorities to extend all possible help to the landslide-affected people.

Several Rongmei civil society organisations have expressed solidarity with the Makhuam landslide victims and appealed to all communities in the state and the concerned authorities to extend all possible help to the affected people.

"At this difficult times, we appeal to all communities residing in the state and the concerned authorities to extend all possible help to the affected people. Further, we urge the concerned authority to take up river embankment works to prevent occurrence of such unwanted incident in the future. We share their grief and pray that the Almighty grant solace to the bereaved family," the organisations said in a joint statement.

The Rongmei civil organisations of Rongmei Naga Council Manipur, Rongmei Naga Luphuam Manipur and the Rongmei Naga Students Manipur stated in a joint release that Makhuam-5 in Tamenglong district was hit by the massive landslide that swept the whole area of the security and workers camp situated at a under-construction railway site on June 29 midnight.

Following the tragic incident, the RNCM, RNLPM and the RNSOM apprised the state chief minister, the minister of Disaster Management and concerned MLAs of Tamenglong and Nungba ACs, the statement said. Members of the Rongmei CSOs rushed to the site with volunteers, it said, adding that the evacuation and rehabilitation works were continuing.

Rongmei civil organisations under the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur visited landslide victim family members at Makhuam on Sunday,  informed Ramkung, president Rongmei Naga Council Manipur. 

A team of Naga CVOs, including the United Naga Council, the Naga women Union and the All Naga Students Association Manipur with Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and zeme Council leaders reached out to the victims.

Ramkung said a relief committee has formed under the name Relief and Rehabilitation Committee for Makhuam Landslide (RRCML). The committee will take up relief, operation and rehabilitation activities relating to the natural calamity that took place at the railway project site in Makhuam village, Tamenglong district with immediate effect, he said.
