Manipuri Gorkha Union (MGU),Manipuri Gorkha Youth Association (MGYA), Federation of Indian Gorkha Association (FIGA) Manipur Branch, All Manipuri Mother’s Association, Gorkha (AMMAG), Gorkha Women Union,Manipur (GWUM) have strongly condemn “the reckless and senseless statement made through the resolutions of the meeting of certain CSOs of Kangpokpi held under the aegis of Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA) whereby a selected few CSOs are stated to be the only civil society organisations in Kangpokpi.”

Such immature and irrational statement made by SAHILCA has a potential to create enmity in between the various communities residing in the region, stated a joint release. With the multiplicity of the various ethnic groups residing within Manipur and specifically Kangpokpi, it is illogical for SAHILCA, which represents only a single community, and thus, is not representative of the multiple ethnicities residing in Kangpokpi, to make such reckless statements having widespread consequences for all the communities residing in the region, it stated.

It stated that there are multiple communities residing in Kangpokpi, with each of them represented by their own CSOs. Taking a myopic view of the matter in hand with such important immeasurable consequences, without consultation or representation of the multiplicity of CSOs, is indeed an absurd idea, it stated. SAHILCA’s resolve in fighting jointly for the welfare of the district is indeed a welcome step. However, the fight must be in tandem with the resolve of the people of the district, with all the communities participating in the process, it added.

Also, the resolution to prohibit land selling or provide land on lease is uncalled for and is not in the hands of the CSOs to decide, it further stated. The publicly elected government is the best adjudicator for the same and only a legislative or an executive resolution on the same can decide on the aforesaid matter, it added.

Meanwhile, the Liangmai Naga Council (Eastern Zone) LNC (EZ), The Eastern Liangmai Chief Chairman Association (ELCCA), Ahangruak Chief Chairman Association (ACCA) also strongly condemn “the senseless statement made by the Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA).”

The fact of the matter is that the above mentioned organisations are exclusively Kukis based CSOs and therefore, the SAHILCA should not try to mislead the general public through media by disrespecting the indigenous people and distorting the history of the land, stated a joint release. It is very unfortunate to see such ignorance and immature statements in public domain which can escalate communal flare up in the state if not clarified at the earliest, it stated.

Liangmai organisations would like to express its happiness and congratulate SAHILCA for announcing to fight against poppy plantations in its area and pray that the fight to eradicate drugs will not only be on paper but also in spirit as well, it added.
