Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs) comprising Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students’ Union on Friday condemned the armed clash that reportedly occurred between NSCN (IM) and ZUF cadres at Shangji village under Nungba Sub-Division on Thursday and asserted that it has vitiated the peaceful atmosphere in Zeliangrong areas.
ZCOs Media and publicity cell, in a release, decried that frequent armed confrontation between NSCN (IM) and ZUF cadres in the past spoiled the festive mood of the people in Zeliangrong areas.
It asserted that such confrontation sometimes resulted in the loss of many precious lives without any reasonable cause. Zeliangrong people in particular and Nagas were optimistic of peaceful living with the signing of Ceasefire agreements with the Naga political groups to precede for political talk to facilitate political solutions.
However, the hope and dream of the people have been shattered with the frequent armed confrontation despite the ceasefire agreement, adding that the efficacy of the ceasefire agreement holds lesser meaning.
It further expressed discontentment at the Centre for allegedly remaining a silent spectator and turning a blind eye into such frequent armed confrontation in Zeliangrong areas. It suspected whether the same is a devised sinister design of the Centre to sow seeds of distrust among the Naga brethren under the garb of ceasefire agreements.
It also held the Centre accountable and maintained that it must bear the responsibility for all the precious lives lost during the ongoing political talk. It also appealed to all the political groups to uphold their commitment and decision to usher peace in the region, and also to respect the sentiment of the people.
The people’s support and cooperation so far extended to all political groups anticipating a logical political solution may lose its faith and confidence might fade away if frequent armed confrontation occurs between the armed groups, it stated.
It also urged the Centre to monitor the overall situation so as to ensure that armed confrontation and loss of precious lives do not occur and pave the way for peace in the region.
