A constable of the 86th Bn Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Imphal West allegedly shot himself with his service INSAS rifle around 12.15 pm on Thursday, sources said.
The security personnel has been identified as constable/GD No175223388, Chandra Bhoj, son of Mansharam from Varchegondi Mode in Chhattisgarh.
According to the sources, the contsbale allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself through his throat with his service INSAS rifle at the veranda of 86th Bn CRPF Camp.
He was immediately rushed to RIMS but could not be saved, the sources said.
In connection with the incident, Lamphel Police station has registered a case and a post-mortem was conducted on the body at RIMS mortuary. His mortal remains are likely to be transported to his home in Chhattisgarh on Friday, the sources added.
