National secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) Pallab Sen Gupta on Tuesday expressed concern over the political situation in Manipur and strongly rejected the proposal for administrative dissection by certain groups.
The national secretary was speaking during the press meet held at Irawat Bhawan, Imphal.
Sengupta further highlighted the mutli-faceted debilitating political and social issues plaguing Manipur and added that there were efforts at central level to prevent further turnoil in Manipur.
“We had meeting with the state unit to discuss the Manipur situation. Manipuris have become refugees in their own land and as such, a permanent solution is the dire need,” he said.
He further questioned why the chief minister was not ready to resign even after the devastating loss in the Lok Sabha election.
On the other hand, he expressed gratitude to all INDIA Bloc workers for their efforts in ushering a thumping victory.
“The bloc could have won at the national level if proper seat sharing was formulated,” he added.
He further called for a permanent solution that safeguarded the unity and territorial integrity of Manipur and strongly discarded notions of multiple autonomous administrative entities within the state.
“We must protect the present Manipur. Nevertheless, there should be a permanent solution,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of revisiting the notions of Manipur’s merger with India.
