Covid Surge in Manipur: CM seeks suggestions, urges all to get vaccinated

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that the state cabinet will hold discussions on whether students under 12 years of age will continue to take offline classes as the state is witnessing an increasing Covid-19 cases in the last few days, and sought suggestions from the public on the matter.   

Biren was addressing the launching programme of Chief Minister gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) and Pradhan Mantri Han Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) social media campaign at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, Imphal West on Monday.

Saying that many people in Manipur are yet to get vaccinated, the chief minister sought suggestions from the public on what steps can be taken as the same issue is going to be discussed in the state cabinet.

"People should not take the virus lightly as the whole country had already witnessed the impact of the Covid infection during the previous years," he said.

Urging all to get full dose vaccination, Biren said that the government will issue an advisory from the state Health department to prevent further spread of the virus.

Biren said a committee to issue PMJAY cards for the needy people will be set up soon so that even those who had already enrolled in CMHT scheme could get the opportunity to upgrade their cards to PMJAY scheme.

Under the CMHT scheme, any person can get the benefit of the scheme if the committee headed by respective DCs approve the applicant for the scheme, he said.

Similarly, for PMJAY, a committee will be constituted to approve any eligible individual to get the benefits of the scheme. Setting up of the committee has been approved, he added.

He said the committee for CMHT was constituted as many schemes have been misused by rich people though the scheme was introduced for the needy people.

Biren said the environment of JNIMS has changed positively in the last few years as anyone can now observe a ‘hospital-like’ environment when they enter JNIMS. The state government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been bringing a positive change in the health sector, he added.

The state government has also provided the facility for kidney transplantation at JNIMS recently and a facility for neurosurgery will be made available in government hospitals soon, he said. The state is planning to improve the infrastructure for neurosurgery as well, said Biren.

He further said that the CMHT was launched on January 21, 2018 especially for the needy and poor people to let them have the facility of minimum expenditure during medical treatment. More people are being benefited with the launching of CMHT and PMJAY social media campaigns, he said. It is even easier for people to get information and get themselves registered to avail the schemes, he added.  

As a part of the function, he also launched State Health Agency Manipur’s Official Website; Open BIS (Self Registration for PMJAY Card) was rolled out; PMJAY Comic Book/ Teacher’s guidebook/ PMJAY and CMHT Flyers were launched, updated information on CMHT and PMJAY brochures, roll-out of PMJAY Card Generation Drive by Zephyr Ltd and MedSave Health Insurance TPA Pvt. Ltd were all launched.

During the function, N Biren, accompanied by Minister Health and Family Welfare Manipur Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh also distributed the Kayakalp Award, 2020 and computers to TIs and LWS NGOs under MACS.

In the Kayakalp Award, 2022 District Hospital and SDH/CHC category, District Hospital, Bishnupur and CHC, Bishnupur received the Winners’ Awards and SDH, Moreh Tengnoupal received the runners up award.

In the Primary Health Centre category, PHC Lamlai, PHC Mekola, PHC Sagang, PHC Thanga, PHC Pallel, PHC Moreh, PHC Charangpat, PHC Chingai, PHC Tadubi, PHC Saikul, PHC Tamei, PHC Khoupum, PHC Borobekra, PHC Sibapurikhal received the Winners’ Award, while, PHC Komlathabi and PHC Phungyar received Commendation Awards.

In the Health and Wellness Centre category, HWC, Seijang, HWC Awang Wabagai, HWC Suangdoh, HWC Phubala, HWC Unopat, HWC Leimakhong and HWC Langathel, all received the Winners’ Award.

One each beneficiary of CMHT and PMJAY also delivered testimonials before the gathering. The dignitaries also launched a Kayakalp booklet and Know your HIV/AIDS Status Stay Healthy Campaign. Short videos were also shown highlighting the CMHT and PMJAY schemes.
