COVID-19: Nagaland registers highest single-day spike with 22 cases

State Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said the new cases are all returnees from Chennai.

Nagaland on Thursday registered its highest single-day spike with 22 COVID-19 positive cases, taking the state's overall tally to 80, official sources said.

State Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom took to Twitter and said the new cases are all returnees from Chennai.

"Out of 171 samples tested at NHAK & Dibugarh, 22 more returnees from Chennai have tested COVID-19 +ve," the minister tweeted.

Of the 171 total sample tested, 11 cases each were confirmed at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima and  Dibrugarh, respectively sources said, adding 18 are male and four female.

All COVID-19 confirmed cases reported so far in the state are Chennai returnees. All cases are active.

Nagaland reported its first COVID-19 cases on May 25 after three persons who returned from Chennai, Tamil Nadu by a Shramik Special Train on May 22 tested positive for the virus.

On April 12, a 33-year-old businessman from Dimapur, tested positive for COVID-19 but he was added to Assam’s tally as he was tested and treated at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Assam.
