In what could be termed translating the state government's words into action, school building construction works of Eastern Christian High School, Chingjaroi CV, has begun in full swing under the banner of "School Fagathansi Mission" of Manipur's Education Department.
School Fagathansi Mission was launched in 2018 with the objectives of improving school education.
The foundation stone for ECHS building construction was laid by Khashim Vashum, MLA of 45-Chingai assembly constituency on 16 December, 2021, who is now a cabinet minister, in the presence of Makaohei Singh, MES ZEO Ukhrul; Lawrence Tuizar, former ADC Ukhrul; AS. Raizar, headman Chingjaroi CV and K. Shomi, chairman VDC, Chingjaroi CV.
It may be pointed out that ECHS and Leisan High School are the two government schools in Ukhrul district covered in the second phase of School Fagathansi Mission under the Education (S) Department, Government of Manipur.
As per reports, all 25 students from the school cleared the HSLC examination, 2022 with 15 securing 1st division and the remaining 10 coming in 2nd division; 23 students secured letter marks in different subjects.
For the record, Eastern Christian High School is one of the oldest government schools in Ukhrul district. It was established in 1962 and ever since its inception, it has consistently maintained a good track record thanks to the dedication exhibited by the teaching staff in educating the far-flung rural villages. It has produced several dignified officers in different fields too.
Based on the earlier report published exclusively by the Imphal Free Press on the poor conditions faced by teaching staff of this government high school, effective implementation of the School Fagathansi Mission, which aims to improve infrastructure and usher overall improvement of the school ensuring adequate teaching staff by the concerned education, will restore the good reputation the school enjoyed.
It may be mentioned that Deputy Secretary Education(S), T Phulen Meitei, had issued an order on 17 June, 2021 for implementation of the second phase of ‘School Fagathansi Mission’ to 60 schools under Education (S) Department for development of infrastructure, civil works like repairing and renovation of class-rooms, construction of toilet blocks, additional class rooms, provision of dual desk and benches including arrangement of posting of teachers etc. within the framework of the mission.
Inhabited by three sister villages namely Chingjaroi Khullen, Chingjaroi Ngachaphung and Chingjaroi CV, the village is located in extreme north of Manipur's Ukhrul district.
