A large number of Congress leaders and workers from PCC, DCC, BCC and different frontal organisations on Thursday marched to the Enforcement Directorate Office in Imphal demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the Modani Mega Scam and the immediate removal of the SEBI chairperson.
The protest was led by MPCC President K Meghachandra along with CLP Leader and former chief minister, O Ibobi Singh, CWC member and former deputy chief minister, Gaikhangam.
Many former MPCC presidents, MLAs, ex-Ministers, Ex-MLAs and top leaders of the Congress party joined the protest along with leaders and members of IYC, NSUI, Mahilla Congress and Seva Dal.
Addressing the media, CLP leader O Ibobi Singh came down heavily on the present Modi government for not instituting the JPC to investigate the MODANI Mega Scam. He questioned the relation between Prime Minister Modi and his few friends that have destroyed the nation’s economy for their own benefits.
MPCC president K Meghachandra demanded for a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate MODANI Mega Scam and demanded for immediate removal of the SEBI chairperson. He also raised the question on why the Prime Minister is protecting Adani and the SEBI chairperson.
The demand for a JPC was reinforced by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s recent statement, asserting that a committee would be formed within a month to investigate the “Modani Mega Scam.” Ramesh accused the government of illegal over-invoicing of coal and power equipment, laundering Rs 20,000 crore back into Adani companies, and forcing Indian businesses to divest assets under the Modi regime. He further alleged that the government was enriching the Prime Minister’s close associates at the expense of Indian consumers, who have faced rising electricity prices and airport fees.
Speaking to the media, AICC Executive Member of Law, N Bupenda Meitei, who is also Senior Spokesperson of the MPCC, questioned the deliberate silence of the centre for failing to have honoured their own submission in the Supreme Court and according to which the Apex Court ordered to complete the remaining 2 out of 24 investigations within 3 months but it was not completed by the SEBI.
He also questioned why the Prime Minister is protecting the SEBI Chairperson till date, further questioning why the JPC should not investigate the MODANI Mega Scam. He exposed the crony capitalism under the Modi government which has destroyed the nation’s economy.
After the protest, the entire leaders of the Congress party marched on the national highway to expose and demand for a JPC to investigate the MODANI Mega Scam and remove the SEBI Chairperson immediately.
Banners and many placards were also used in the protest, in which the following slogans were raised, “We demand JPC on Modi -Adani mega scam”, “Remove SEBI Chairperson”, “Investigate Adani transactions”, “Investigate Adani mega scam”, “What is the relation between Adani and SEBI Chairperson”, “What is the relation between PM Modi and Adani”, “SEBI Chairperson must resign to restore SEBI’s integrity”, “Why is PM Modi protecting SEBI Chairperson?”, “Immediately convene JPC to investigate MODANI Mega Scam”, “What is the source of Rs 20000 crores invested in Adani groups?”.
