Six student bodies of Manipur comprising MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS and another students organisation on Tuesday demanded to conduct similar anti-militant operations carried out in Moreh in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur to root out Kuki militant groups.
Mention may be made of the joint operations by state and central security forces in Moreh border town and surrounding villages which had led to arrests of Kuki militants and recovery of large numbers of weapons, including explosive materials, after the killing of police officer Ch Anand.
Many innocent people and students have paid a heavy price for the barbaric acts of terrorism allegedly carried out by Kuki militant groups under SoO, a joint release stated.
‘We must harden the resolve to eradicate the terrorist menace and also take serious steps to this end’, the student bodies said.
It urged to conduct special operations in the areas operated by the Kuki militant groups and to restore the rule of law to protect and save innocent civilians.
It questioned the Centre why it has failed to abrogate SoO despite knowing the many acts of atrocities allegedly carried out by the militants.
Kuki militant groups under SoO in Kangpokpi, with more than 800 cadres, are frequently threatening the lives of the people, it said. It also highlighted the recent case of the two missing boys and urged the authorities concerned to trace their whereabouts at the earliest.
It reiterated its demand to conduct a similar anti-militant operation carried out in Moreh at Kangpokpi and Churachandpur to root out militants, take necessary actions against the terrorists and withdraw SoO truce with the militants defying ground rules.
It also cautioned of various untoward incidents in the state if the government continues to ignore the pain, suffering and demands of the people.
