Committee to look into shifting of security forces from old Koirengei airfield in Imphal East

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh Tuesday chaired a review meeting on transfer of land under old airfield at Koirengei, Imphal East to the state government.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that a high-level committee has been set up to look into the shifting of the security forces from old airfield to 33-Keingam, Imphal West near the 57 mountain division at Leimakhong.

The chief minister took to Twitter and posted the setting up of the committee after chairing a review meeting on transfer of land under old airfield at Koirengei, Imphal East to the state government on Tuesday.

“Chaired a Review Meeting on transfer of land under old airfield at Koirengei, IE, to the State Govt. A high level committee has been constituted to look into the shifting of the security forces from the old airfield to 33-Keingam, IW, near the 57 Mountain Division at Leimakhong.” CM Biren tweeted on Tuesday.

This airfield with an area of 74.24 acres was constructed during the Second World War by the Allied forces to check the Japanese advance. Of the total area, 56.36 acres was state land while the remaining 17.82 acres were acquired from 16 private land owners, as per official sources.
