The collection of Aadhaar numbers from existing electors and citizens seeking registration in the electoral roll for Tamenglong district was launched at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner, Tamenglong HQ on Tuesday.
On the occasion, Tamenglong DEO/DC Pawan Yadav stated that the linking of the electors with the Aadhaar number is done to avoid duplicity in the electoral roll.
Tamenglong sub-divisional officer Imosana; Tousem sub-divisional officer Paul Nangsha; chief medical officer Tamenglong Dr G Majachunglu and representatives from different political parties attended the launch.
Tamenglong sub-divisional officer Imosana informed that electors can link with their Aadhaar number using form 6B.
He said that the chief election officer, Manipur has assured to provide a printing machine to print EPIC cards. Once the printer is available at the district headquarters, one need not go to Imphal just to print the EPIC card, he added.
He mentioned that according to the ECI guidelines EROs, AEROs or any officials cannot force the electors to link with Aadhar numbers. It should be done voluntarily by the electors, he added.
Although it is voluntary, it is still mandatory to link Aadhaar with voter cards to remove bogus registration and reduce multiple registrations as well.
He informed that a training will be conducted for all booth level officers within the two assemblies including 53 Tamenglong assembly and 52 Tamei assembly constituencies.
