The collection of Aadhaar numbers from existing electors and citizens seeking registration in the electoral roll for Thoubal district was launched by the Thoubal District Election Office on Monday.

A release by Thoubal district information officer stated that along with the rest of the country the District Election Office Thoubal held the launching of the collection of Aadhar numbers at the conference hall of deputy commissioner Thoubal. Speaking on the occasion, Thoubal DEO/DC A Subash Singh stated that the linking of the electors with the Aadhaar number is done to avoid duplicity in the electoral roll.

Thoubal ADM B Lokeshor delivered a PowerPoint presentation and informed that electors can link with their Aadhaar number using form 6B. He mentioned that according to the ECI guidelines EROs, AEROs or any officials cannot force the electors to link with Aadhar number. It should be done voluntarily by the electors, he added.

Previously, the qualifying date for a citizen to enrol to the electoral roll was only January 1, however the ECI has recently updated four qualifying dates, January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1.
