Manipur Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar on Saturday announced that the result for class 12 exam, 2023 conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) would be declared coming Monday (May 22).

He said the result for class 10 examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) would be declared most likely in the first week of June.

Speaking to the media at the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Imphal, on Saturday the education minister stated that the department conducted a meeting to discuss the delay in BOSEM class 10 exam results.

“The reason for the delay is two-fold - one, the number of the class 10 students is greater and second, there are no teachers to check the papers for ethnic language papers at the moment but the department is grinding to make sure it is done and most likely, the results will be announced in the first week of June,” he said.

On the matter of displaced students in relief camps, Basantakumar highlighted that the government would first initiate measures for school students from pre-primary to class 12 in nine districts.

The districts are Kangpokpi, Jiribam, Thoubal, Imphal West, Wangoi, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Kakching.

He stated that according to the latest data of the relief camps as many as 4,747 school students have been housed in various relief camps across the said districts.

We expect the number of school students in each district to go higher in the coming days, he added.

He stated that notebooks, pens, pencils, sports materials and uniforms would be distributed to the displaced students starting Sunday.

He also added that pilot projects for regular classes have been started in a few relief camps and that the same would be implemented in the remaining camps within the next 2-3 days.

He continued that the project had been initiated to keep academic careers of the students intact and to restore normalcy in their lives.

“The unfortunate incident has left a huge traumatic imprint on children and students and as such, the government is burning the midnight oil to ensure they return to a normal atmosphere,” the minister said, adding that all the stationary items and books will be provided for by the government.

Basantakumar also maintained that volunteer teachers would be deputed to the relief camps to initiate the classes. The government will work closely with CSOs and local volunteers to ensure there are no loopholes in conducting classes for the displaced students, he added.

He further mentioned that the transfer and admission of the displaced students in classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 would be allowed to the schools of their choice.

“If seats are not available at the selected schools, arrangements will be made in other nearby schools close to the residence of the student; the whole arrangement would be allowed for only time,” he said.
