The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has condemned the killing and abduction of innocent villagers, including a woman and an 8-month old child near Jakrudhar, Borobekra in Jiribam district.

Speaking to the media, COCOMI media coordinator Y Surjitkumar warned the central and state forces of people’s uprising if they do not rescue the abducted villagers including children.

He said such tragic incidents occurred despite the presence of central forces, which had previously enabled villagers to carry on with their daily activities with a sense of safety.

COCOMI praised the swift retaliation by the CRPF against the aggression by Kuki militants, describing the response as appropriate.

COCOMI expressed that if other security forces, including the Assam Rifles, had acted similarly to counter the Chin-Kuki militants since the conflict’s start on May 3, 2023, the violence might not have escalated to its current level.

COCOMI appealed for the immediate release of six civilians abducted during the incident, urging both state and central forces to take prompt action and warned that the people of Manipur would not remain silent if the abductees were not freed.
