CM Biren wishes 'Happy Drivers Day 2023' to all road transport drivers and workers in Manipur

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday extended greetings to all the road transport drivers and motor workers on the occasion of Manipur Drivers' Day 2023.

"On the occasion of 34th Drivers' Day, I salute the drivers of our state. Despite all the risks, they go through the highways & around the state, providing & carrying the basic necessities for all the people of the state. I wish them the best for their future. Happy Drivers' Day!," Biren said in a Twitter post.

The All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motors Workers Union (AMRTDMWU) observes Drivers Day every January 14 following an incident in Nagaland where one transport truck driver and his assistant driver were killed by miscreants on the day in 1990.

So far, a total of 334 highway transporters have been killed in different incidents, according to AMRTDMWU secretary general Maimom Anil.

The 34th edition of the day was observed at the Inter State Bus Terminal, Khuman Lampak, Imphal with the programme starting at 10 am on Saturday.

The AMRTDMWU has requested all in the state to observe the day without any form of festivities or entertainment.

Meanwhile, in a series of tweets, the chief minister also extended festive greetings to the people on the occasion of Magh Bihu and Makar Sankranti.

"On the auspicious occasion of Magh Bihu, may the people of Assam be blessed with light and prosperity. Happy Magh Bihu!" Biren tweeted.

The chief minister also wished the people happiness and prosperity on Makar Sankranti day.

"On this auspicious festival, Makar Sankranti, may the life of all the people be filled with warmth of glory, happiness and prosperity. Happy Makar Sankranti!"
