CM Biren skips Ningol Chakkouba celebration at home in Imphal

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba, one of the biggest festivals in Manipur, on Thursday extended greetings to the people of the state, especially to the womenfolk of the state.

"Greetings to everyone on this auspicious occasion of Ningol Chakouba. May this festival strengthen the bond shared by brothers & sisters and daughters & parents," he mentioned in his Ningol Chakkouba message to the people of the state.

The chief minister, however, said he had to skipped the Ningol Chakkouba celebration in his hometown Imphal this time as he had to attend the two-day All India Home Ministers’ Conference in Haryana on October 27 and 28.

"I had to skip today’s Ningol Chakouba as I’m in Delhi to attend the All India Home Ministers’ Conference in Haryana on 27 and 28 Oct . Wish you all a very happy Ningol Chakouba," Biren said in a Facebook post.

Although the festival was originally observed by the Meitei community, it is now celebrated by other communities as well, the chief minister said.

Ningol Chakkouba festival celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, and daughters and parents. It also promotes the feeling of peaceful coexistence and harmonious living by reaffirming faith in the traditional values of love and protection.

The festival is celebrated every year in the Manipuri lunar month of Hiyangei. This year, it falls on October 27.
