CM Biren postpones visit to Jiribam, advance security team returns

The advance security team was waylaid and ambushed by Kuki Militants near K Senam along NH-37 earlier on Monday

After repeated postponement of Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s proposed visit to Jiribam district, Manipur the advance security team which went to Jiribam on Monday returned to Imphal on Saturday.

Mention may be made that, the advance security team was waylaid and ambushed by Kuki Militants near K Senam along NH-37 earlier on Monday, in which two personnel including a civilian driver was injured.

Initially, the advance team was led by CO Ist MR Dr S Ibomcha Singh. After the ambush, search operations were conducted in the surrounding area leading to destruction of bunkers used by the Kuki militants and the team proceeded towards Jiribam on the same day with reinforcements led by ADGP L Kailun.

The convoy which returned on Saturday was led by ADGP (Law and Order) L Kailun accompanied by IGP Zone-3 Angam Kamei Romanus, DIG N Herojit, CO 1st MR S Ibomcha, DSP Amit and DSP CDO P Achouba.

As per sources, the convoy departed from Jiribam as they were uncertain about the Chief Minister’s exact arrival time.

However, CAFPD Minister L Sushildro arrived at Jiribam on Wednesday to supervise relief operations.
DIG CRPF and personnel led by four Commanding Officers (COs) were deployed as ROP duty along NH-37 when the advance convoy team departed from Jiribam for Imphal.

Meanwhile, DIG Range-2 of Manipur Police, Ningshen Worngam, along with SO Tamenglong and security forces led by SDPO, were deployed for security measures in Jiribam after the convoy had departed.

Notably, a civil driver Moirangthem Ajesh alias Bobo, 32, son of Shyamjai of Thanga Ngaram Leikai and a CID(Security) Ershad Usham Kham,30, son of Shahabuddin of Minuthong Golapati Maning Leikai sustained injuries during the ambush that occurred on June 10.
