Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday acknowledged the contribution made by Shumang Leela in creating social awareness and fostering change in the society. CM Biren assured the artists to earmark an amount of Rs 20-30 lakh every year in the state budget as maintenance charge of the Shumang Leela.

He stated this during the inaugural function of 18th Shumang Leela Ningtham Kumhei 2021-2022 at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.

This 11-day long Shumang Leela festival is organised by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Attending the function as chief guest, Biren said that Shumang Leela has been playing a crucial role in the state for the past many years as a form of infotainment and to carry the society in the right direction.

“It is high time to make films or dramas or Shumang Leela based on the history of the state to let the youth of the state know how our forefathers fought for the state. Recalling our history will surely help to develop a sense of nationalism amongst the youth and help them to prevent doing any harmful things in their life,” he asserted.

He informed that to motivate farmers of the state, the state government will take an initiative to procure rice from farmers. The collected rice will be used for the public distribution system and if it is not enough, the state government will procure only deficit rice from the central government. For this, a proposal was sent to the central government, the CM said.

He continued that a state staff selection board will be formed soon to end  corruption from the state. The state will enforce transfer and posting policy which was introduced recently effectively.
