Claims of peace in Jiribam politically motivated: AMUCO

It should be left to the public to determine whether peace has truly been restored in the district, All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) said.

General secretary of All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO) Pratap Leishangthem on Saturday alleged that the claims made by the state government of restoring peace in Jiribam are likely politically motivated.

Addressing the media during distribution of essential commodities and relief materials, he asserted that AMUCO shall remain committed to its apolitical stance. It should be left to the public to determine whether peace has truly been restored in the district, he said.

The essential commodities and relief materials were distributed to the residents of Jiribam, seeking refuge at Multi Sport Complex (Indoor Hall), Chingdong Leikai Upper Primary School, Sorok Atingbi High School, Jiribam Hr Secondary School, Children Home, Harinagar and various relief camps in Jiribam district on Friday.

The relief materials were distributed by a joint team of All Manipur United Club Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs organisation (AMMPAL) led by Advisor of AMUCO Ito Tongbram along with Jiribamda leiriba All Jiribam United Clubs’ Association, All Jiribam Meira Paibi amadi All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) Jiribam branch.

Speaking on the sideline, Pratap Leishangthem said that the assistance was extended to the internally displaced people who are staying at various relief camps in Jiribam District in a bid to provide some relief and alleviate their problems caused by the prevailing tense situation which erupted on May 3, 2023.

He also highlighted the deplorable condition of Jiribam District hospital and urged chief minister N Biren to upgrade the hospital into a proper District level standard.
