The People’s Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur (PAPPM) on Tuesday demanded the state government to conduct a judicial enquiry into the reported cases of violence and arson in Churachandpur and Tuibong which took place on April 27 and 28.
PAPPM, in a release, demanded the state government to constitute a judicial committee to carry out the probe to identify and punish the culprits involved in the incident according to law. It also appealed to the people of the state to support the demand.
During the incident, the agitators vandalised and destroyed private and public properties including a forest range office and also injured one police personnel who sustained a serious eye injury with the possibility of losing his eyesight, it stated.

It alleged that the violent agitation was orchestrated by the powerful groups who were using the eviction as an excuse in an attempt to protect their business of poppy plantation, drug smuggling and deforestation for many years against the interest of the people.
It is extremely wrong that some civil society organisations have targeted a whole community for the violence and arson when those who are directly involved should be the ones to blame, it added.
It also appealed to the people of various communities of the state to live harmoniously for a peaceful and progressive Manipur.
