Churachandpur in sombre mood on Christmas Eve, reports no new positive cases for first time

The district has so far recorded 1,946 COVID-19 positive cases with 30 active cases at present and 39 deaths.

For the first time since May 16 when the first COVID-19 positive case was detected in Churachandpur district, the district witnessed zero new positive cases on Thursday. 

Nevertheless, owing to the pandemic, unlike previous years, a sombre mood on Christmas Eve was witnessed with major denominational churches deciding not to celebrate Christmas in their churches, especially in the town areas.

Moreover, the markets witnessed a lesser number of shoppers compared to past years on Christmas Eve.

Meanwhile, Minister in charge of Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts, Vungzagin Valte in his Christmas and New Year’s wishes said, “I am thankful to the almighty who saved us this far in the face of COVID-19 pandemic and may the Prince of Peace who rule and reign within us bring and shower upon us social security, communal harmony, peace and prosperity, love and compassion, a mindset of forgetting and forgive.”

He also expressed hope that human suffering due to Covid leaves everyone for good in the new year. 

The SP of the district Amrita Sinha also wished the people of the district a joyous time while asking them to follow COVID-19 SOP.
