The first ‘Smart Eco -Toilets’ for Churachandpur district, which are located at three strategic locations in the town, were inaugurated by MLA of Churachandpur assembly constituency LM Khaute in the presence of Thanlon assembly constituency MLA Vungzagin Valte and Singngat assembly constituency MLA Chinlunthang Zou.
The electronically operated Smart Eco-Toilet was constructed under the 15th Finance Commission Award (TIED Grant) 2020-21 by Autonomous District Council Churachandpur in collaboration with PHED, Churachandpur. The toilets are located at Nute Bazar, Bus parking, and in front of Churachandpur Police Station. The toilets can be used or become functional after the insertion of a Rs 2 coin.
The Smart Eco-Toilet consists of three single self-cleaning electronic eco-toilet and one double self - cleaning electronic eco-toilet which altogether cost almost Rs 21 lakh (in addition to Rs 4 lakh for installation, transportation, and iron fencing), with the installation made by Engineers from Hyderabad.
Addressing the gathering, the MLA of Churachandpur assembly constituency reminded them that it is their property for which they are responsible for the upkeep. Arrangements will soon be made to have a caretaker, he further said, telling the people to make it last, being their property.
The CEO of ADCC also echoed the MLA’s statement mentioning that it is the people's property, while also mulling the idea of providing such a facility in all strategic locations in the district, if funds may be available.
