A three-day sports festival for children living in three Child Care Institutions (CCIs), namely
Epamlamdam Open Shelter for Girls, Moreh, Holy Children Home for Boys, Moreh and Hrruo Open Shelter for Boys, Moreh began on Tuesday at Eastern Shine School, public ground Moreh, Tengnoupal district, Manipur.
The sports festival is being organised under the aegis of Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, New Delhi and under the guidance of state department of Social Welfare as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav under the theme, ‘Women and Children’.
The opening ceremony was attended by principal of Eastern Shine School, Moreh K Shyamo Singh; District Child Protection Officer, DCPU, Tengnoupal and Chandel L Victor Singh and founder, CDAC, Wangjing, Manipur M Sushilkumar Singh as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The three-day sports event will conclude on Thursday. It is participated by 70 boys and girls from these three CCIs and shall compete at different sports events in outdoor and indoor such as football, 100, 200, 800 meter races, kabaddi, Long jump, Height jump, Badminton, Carrom, Chess etc.
All the children who are achieving 1st, 2nd and 3rd in sports competitions and all the participants shall be awarded prizes and certificates etc. during the closing ceremony to encourage them.
