Chief Justice of Manipur Siddharth Mridul led a tree plantation drive carried out at Manipur High Court premises on Friday.
The drive was held in collaboration with the Forest Department, Government of Manipur in a bid to promote the cause of forest and environment conservation under the theme 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' in the honour of mothers, stated a release.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the judges of High Court of Manipur, Justice A Bimol Singh; Justice A Guneshwar Sharma; Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui; Advocate General, Manipur, Lenin Singh Hijam; Additional PCCF, Soreiphy Vashum; CCF, L Joykumar Singh and other officials and staff of the High Court and State Forest Department, it noted.
Various tree saplings including Kadamb, Peepal, Nageshwar and Bokul, known for its rich ecological value and medicinal properties were planted during the drive, it mentioned.
Speaking on the sidelines, PCCF & HoFF of Manipur, Anurag Bajpai, said that similar events will be organised in District Courts in collaboration with various organisations in the days to come, it stated.
He added that the plantation drive at the High Court of Manipur symbolises the collective efforts made for enhancing Manipur’s green cover and underscores the commitment needed to protect and preserve the environment for future generations, it asserted.
The State Forest Department, under this initiative has planted around 26 lakh saplings during the current year across various Forest Divisions in the state, it mentioned. The Department aims to plant Thirty Lakh seedlings by September, 2024 and Fifty lakh seedlings by the end of March, 2025 under the campaign, it noted.
It further said that the initiative 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' aimed at encouraging people to plant a tree in the name of their mother, thereby not only contributing to environmental sustainability but paying tribute to the mothers for their pivotal roles in nurturing life. It also aligns with the broader goals of enhancing green cover and combating climate change, it added.
