Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan, commonly known as SUMAN, was launched in the Chandel District Hospital, Manipur on Wednesday. With the launch of the programme, expectant mothers have been urged to avail several free medical benefits.
SUMAN focuses on assured delivery of maternal and new-born healthcare services encompassing wider access to free, and quality services, zero tolerance for denial of services, assured management of complications along with respect for women’s autonomy, dignity, feelings, choices and preferences, etc.
Dr Serthani, CMO of the district hospital, as chief guest, launched SUMAN and explained its importance while calling on the married people, especially expecting mothers to take advantage of the scheme.
Dr Ps Shangreihow, DNO, SUMAN, while welcoming the gathering, explained that under SUMAN, expecting mothers will have free ambulance services (102 or 108); minimum 4 (four) antenatal check-ups; normal delivery or C-section delivery; medicines, lab tests for mother (from conception to six months after delivery) and baby up to one year; proper care with respect and dignity; grievance redressal mechanism (Toll-free No. 104). And all these services will be free of cost, the DNO said.
Dr Th Joyson Monsang, Medical Superintendent of the district hospital encouraged mothers in the district to take advantage of the scheme for the betterment of their health and their babies.
