The Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) Manipur on Wednesday announced that the ‘Dr Thiyam Suresh Literary, 2023’ will be conferred to the renowned writer Oinam Tunal who is also known as ‘Chana Lukhoi’ from Chana Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.
A release issued by PAWF Manipur secretary Rakesh Naorem stated that the ‘Dr Thiyam Suresh Literary, 2023’ which is the first literary award of PAWF Manipur, was donated by Rk Tamphasana Devi and her family in the name of her late husband Dr Thiyam Suresh who was a scholar and the former director of Health Service, Manipur.
The award which consists of a cash of Rs 10,000, a shawl, a citation and a memento will be presented annually from 2023 onwards, it mentioned.
It informed that the award ceremony will be held on May 1 at the Ima Banquet Hall, opposite Churachandpur parking at Keishampat at 1 pm in the presence of Wangkhei assembly constituency MLA Thangjam Arunkumar as the chief guest and PAWF president Naoroibam Khamba Luwang as the president of the programme.
It maintained that the recipient of the award Chana Lukhoi who was born in 1950 is a renowned Sumang Leela writer.
Chana Lukhoi wrote many scripts for Manipuri feature films and is also an approved playwright of AIR and DDK Imphal, it continued.
It mentioned that he had received the best script writer title 18 times and the second best script writer nine times in the All Manipur Sumang Leela Competition, adding that some of his highly acclaimed Sumang Leelas include ‘Keishamthong Thoibi’, ‘Sabi Sanou Express’ and ‘Eegi Nong’.
Apart from being known for his contribution to the promotion of Sumang Leela, Chana Lukhoi is also a regular columnist for Sangai Express, a member of the Kangla Fort Board and Kangla Religious Committee, visiting guru at Manipur University and a member of the Academic Council of Manipur University, it added.
