Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his cabinet ministers conveyed warm greetings and wishes to the people of Manipur, particularly the Zeliangrong community, on the occasion of Chakan Gaan Ngai 2021 celebration.
In her message, the governor said Zeliangrong community celebrates Gaan Ngai festival which is the ‘Festival of Winter Season’ for paying obeisance and homage to those departed souls who left this temporal world in the year before. The festival also symbolises bidding adieu to the old year gone by and heralding a New Year, full of hope and aspiration, it stated.
“I am also happy to know that one positive development of this year is that the festival along with its religious fervour has become a major cultural event of not only the Zeliangrong community but of other communities as well,” it added.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh also conveyed his greetings in his message which stated Gaan Ngai, the biggest cultural and religious post harvest festival of the Zeliangrong Community marks the end of the year and beginning of the new year. During the festival, the community offers thanksgiving to God for the good harvest and pray for a successful life in the coming year, it stated.
“As we rejoice in the festivities, we must not forget to observe COVID Appropriate Behaviour to protect ourselves from the pandemic... May the festival bring happiness and prosperity and also spread the message of unity, peace and brotherhood among all communities of the state," he added.
Speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh extended his wishes by stating that Chakan Gaan Ngai festival is the single most popular festival of Zeliangrong people living in Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.
In his message, he stated that during the festival Tingkao Ragwang, the almighty god is worshipped and offered thanks giving for a good harvest in the future and pray for a successful and long life in the coming year.
“On this occasion I wish Zeliangrong people a happy Gaan-Ngai and also wish their prayer for success and happiness in the coming years permeates the whole community living together in Manipur,” it stated.
Wishing everyone a happy Gaan Ngai, Labour Minister Th Satyabratra Singh stated, “Let us adopt a positive outlook and holistic approach towards life with the beginning of every festive season this year” in his message.
Agriculture Minister Lukhoi Singh added, may this festival fosters upon all the sense of oneness, love and peaceful coexistence among all the communities residing in Manipur, in his message
In his message, Works Minister Th Biswajit Singh stated, “Let us celebrate the day in its true spirit and may this festival strengthen the bond of brotherhood in the state.”
Social Welfare Minister O Henry stated, “May the festival bring happiness, peace and prosperity and strengthen the bond of brotherhood and oneness among different communities in the state.”
MP Leishemba Sanajaoba also extended greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Republic Day and Gaan- Ngai.
In his message, Sanajaoba stated that the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and soldiers who made the citizens realise the dream of an independent and unified India deserved a salute. Sanajaoba also wished for prosperity, love, peace and unity among all communities in the state with the advent of Gaan Ngai.
