Capacity building programme of rehabilitation centre held in Churachandpur

Appealing the people to take part in the free drug campaign, SP in-charge Srivanant Surve said that around 271 million people have been affected by drug abuse in India, and unfortunately Manipur is one of states that cultivate poppy plants.

A capacity building programme of rehabilitation centre was on Wednesday organised under Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign by District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee, Churachandpur at DTC hall Tuibong.

Chairman of the committee and deputy commissioner of Churachandpur, Pawan Yadav delivered the inaugural speech, followed by Power Point presentation by SP in-charge, Srivanant Surve on the bad impact of drug abuse. Appealing the people to take part in the free drug campaign, Surve said that around 271 million people have been affected by drug abuse in India, and unfortunately Manipur is one of states that cultivate poppy plants.

The programme was attended by various CVOs including KKL, YPA, SYO, ZYO, HYA, Meetei Society and others.

During the programme, Retired IFS officer, LT Ngaite, Dr Chinkholal Thangsing and District Social Welfare officer, N Binod Singh spoke on the capacity building of rehabilitation centres.

An interactive session was also held led by additional SP (Ops), Lawrence K Munluo in which suggestions regarding setting up of a core committee at the district level was pointed out. It further had consultations with all stakeholders to implement the initiatives in congruence with all the departments. The role of civil voluntary organisations, especially the tribal based organisations, was also discussed, followed by the importance and crucial role of churches. All the participants resolved to join hands together for a drug-free Churachandpur.
