Technology-driven, oncology focused, managed healthcare platform, Karkinos Healthcare Private Limited (KHPL) launched its cancer services in Manipur on Wednesday at Karkinos Manipur Cancer and Research Institute (KMCCRI), Imphal, JNIMS Campus, Imphal East.

Addressing the function, director and CEO of KMCCRI, Imphal, Dr (prof) GS Moirangthem Singh said that KHPL is on a mission to create ‘cancer centres without walls’ with a primary aim of addressing the accessibility or affordability gaps in cancer care. Manipur, being one of the states with high disease burden rates of cancer, this healthcare service is being set up under the sponsorship of the state government by providing land of around 3.2 acres within JNIMS campus.

“Due to the absence of this kind of comprehensive cancer care in the state, people living with cancer and their family members face a lot of challenges to get treatment outside the state. With this concern, KMCCRI has been set up after consultation with the state government. Our attempt would be to reach the maximum eligible population not just from state but also from neighbouring states", he said and informed that CMHT and PMJAY schemes are applicable in the KMCCRI.

He explained that OPD services will be made available from Monday to Friday and timing is between 9 am to 2 pm. The primary focus is on early detection and in getting the right diagnosis using a managed care approach. The company’s digitally enabled community risk assessment tool, covering six common cancers, are self-administered to assess if a person is at high cancer risk, he added.

High risk individuals are then navigated through Karkinos’ proprietary command centre and the individual needing care is directed to the nearest Karkinos centres for consultation and further investigation, the director informed.

Medical Director and CEO, Karkinos Kerala, Dr Moni Abraham said, “our pilot programmes launched and implemented in Kerala and West Bengal in partnership with several health facilities have seen a success and now we expand our operations in Manipur. Early detection and diagnosis will help reduce not just financial burden of individuals but improve the care pathway support and eventually quality of life among patients and caregivers.”

It may be mentioned that OPD and Day Care Chemotherapy Centre of KMCCRI at JNIMS Campus will be operationalised under the supervision of Dr (prof) GS Moirangthem; Dr Sourabh Radhakrishnan and Dr Y Indibor Singh.
