As part of the campaign to ensure free and fair election under the banner ‘Election da Mayai Kaba Nisa Pak Sanna Sijinnaba Thingnaba Meeyam gi Thoudang’ the Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) on Monday organised public meetings at various places in Imphal West district.
A statement issued by CADA stated the campaign was organised at Khongampat, Pheidingga, Awang Sekmai, Mayang Langjing, Lamsang, Sagolband Tera, Khumbong, Konthoujam, Hiyangthang, Samurou, Yumnam Huidrom, Mayang Imphal and Singjamei.
CADA claimed that the continued rise in violence and other illicit activities in the state was owing to the use of drugs and alcohol in election campaigns.
It accused the candidates of the ensuing election of using drugs and alcohol to lure young voters without any concern of the repercussions. By catering to every demand of the workers and supporters, the candidates are encouraging the use of drugs and alcohol abuse which ultimately affects society, it said.
