Bullet-riddled body found in Imphal East

The body was found by locals near Khurai Heikru Makhong Palli Imphal River on Tuesday.

A bullet-riddled body of a man was found on Tuesday near Khurai Heikru Makhong Palli Imphal River which is 3km away from Heingang Police Station, Imphal East district.

The body was found by locals of Heikhru Makhong early in the morning. While the identity of the deceased remains unknown, he is believed to be about 25 to 30 years old.

The man is skinny and has dark skin and a mustache. He wore a blue track suit and an orange T-shirt inside, with a grey hat on and also wore a slipper. On the T-Shirt, 3N Boarding cum Tutorial Centre Yairipok was written. He also had a ring tied around his waist with a white thread.

A bullet wound was found on the right side of his temple. Police recovered an empty case which is suspected to be of a .22 or .33.

According to local residents, they did not hear any gunshots in the area where the dead body was found. However, they believed that they must have confused the sound of gunshots with the sound of firecrackers at a marriage ceremony in Lairiyengbam Awang Leikai from around 9pm to 9.30pm.

Heingang Police registered a case and a team of State Forensic Science Laboratory and SDC Heingang conducted an inquest at the crime scene.

Later the body has been kept at JNIMS mortuary for post mortem.

The deceased has been identified as one Kakyenpaibam Nganba, 26, son of K Chaoba from Moirangpurel Phuramakhong Imphal East district.
