Bridge connecting Manipur-Mizoram inaugurated

The suspension bridge, which is situated between Mimbung village of Mizoram and Singzawl village of Manipur, is expected to shorten the distance between Leingteng in Mizoram and Manipur.

A newly renovated bridge connecting Manipur and Mizoram, situated between Mimbung village of Mizoram and Singzawl village of Manipur was inaugurated on Tuesday by MLA of Lengteng assembly constituency, Mizoram, L Thangmawia Hauzel.

The suspension bridge was installed by former chief secretary of Manipur (L) Jelshyam Hauzel during the 90s and was popularly called the 'Jelshyam tower bridge'.

After years of leaving unattended, it was again made functional and is expected to shorten the distance of around 100 km between Leingteng assembly constituencies in Mizoram and Manipur. 

Secretary of the village authority of Mimbung village Ginsuanlian, told the Imphal Free Press over the phone that they were all happy and thankful to the MLA for renovating the bridge.

For the renovation of the bridge, the MLA received more than Rs 50 lakh which is funded by the State Economic Development Programme (SEDP) of the Mizoram government.
