The Naga Village Chief Federation Manipur (NVCFM) on Wednesday vehemently opposed the fencing of border along Indo-Myanmar in Naga inhabited areas.
A release stated that the opposition to the fencing works is in pursuance of the resolution adopted on the Second Assembly of the Naga village Chief Federation Manipur on August 24.
It condemned the government of India's policy to fence the Indo-Myanmar border, asserting that it has infringed upon the rights of Naga “which is protected within the purview of United Nations Declaration on the rights of Indigenous peoples.”
It informed all the president/chairman/chief of concern associations to pursue non-co-operation with the government or any other agency in fencing the border along Indo-Myanmar border in Naga inhabited areas of the state.
The federation also requested all Naga villages chiefs to abide by the directive in the interest and welfare of the Nagas, the release mentioned.
