The United Meitei Pangal Committee (UMPC) has appealed to all sections of society not to spread misleading information that could ignite communal tension with the Meitei Pangal community. The UMPC also urged the authorities to take action against the individual responsible for circulating an audio clip that could incite communal unrest.
Md Islamuddin, vice president of UMPC, addressed the media on Friday at Yova Kshetrigao ground, Imphal East, on the sidelines of a joint meeting with Meitei-Pangal UMPC Manipur, CSOs, clubs, and organizations.
He explained that on September 18, a group claiming to be volunteers of Arambai Tengol attempted to overpower and seize a four-wheeler from a local resident. Tensions erupted, but the issue was later resolved with the involvement of leaders from Arambai Tengol and the Yova Kshetrigao club.
Islamuddin emphasized that the Meitei-Pangal community has also suffered from last year’s May 3 incident but continues to contribute to society, particularly in the transportation of essential commodities along national highways.
He strongly condemned the circulation of an audio clip on social media that contained misleading information aimed at instigating communal tension between the Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities. He urged all sections of society, including the concerned authorities, to hold the person responsible for this audio accountable.
The meeting concluded with a resolution for all CSOs to work together on a common platform to restore peace in Manipur.
