Miscreants exploded a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the gate of a residence at Nagamapal Kangjabi Leirak Laikangbam Leikai under Imphal Police Station in Imphal West around 11.48 pm on Monday. No casualties were reported.
The residence belonged to deputy registrar of NIIT Lamphel Laikangbam Dorendro ,47, son of (L) Nabakumar from Kangjabi Leirak Laikangbam Leikai.
According to bomb experts, the blast was caused by a highly powerful IED. No splinters of the bomb were found during spot inquiry, but the impact of the blast was felt across Imphal city.
The blast caused some damage to the gate but no casualties were caused as the incident occurred at night. However, the walls of the surrounding homes and doors were damaged by the blast.
Imphal Police Station has registered a case in connection with the incident.
